If a date has not reached 1 travellers 20 days before departure, we tell you straight away and refund everything you have paid within 14 days. If you prefer, you can move to another group date or travel privately instead.
Cancellation by you
- More than 30 days before departure: we refund your deposit, minus €100 per person for costs already paid.
- 15 to 30 days before departure: we refund half of your deposit.
- Less than 15 days before departure, or if you do not come: the deposit is not refunded.
Change of date
You can change your date once, free of charge, up to 30 days before departure: to another group date, or to a private tour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which languages are the group tours guided in?
Every group departure is guided in English, French and Arabic by our Mauritanian guides. The website is translated into ten languages so you can plan in your own, but the tours themselves run in these three languages.
How big are the groups?
Between 1 and 12 travellers. A date shows "Guaranteed departure" as soon as enough travellers have confirmed for it to run.
Can I join a group on my own?
Yes, solo travellers are welcome: a group departure is the easiest way to see Mauritania on your own. Choose a single room when you reserve if you want one; the supplement is shown next to each date.
How do I pay?
Send your request first: there is nothing to pay online. Once we confirm your places, you pay a 30% deposit by bank transfer in euros, with the details in your confirmation. The balance is paid on arrival in Nouakchott.
What happens if a date does not reach the minimum number of travellers?

Where do the group tours start and end?
In Nouakchott. On the first morning we pick you up from your hotel in Nouakchott, and the tour ends there on the last day. Plan to arrive the day before.
Do I need a visa for Mauritania?
Most visitors do. Since January 2025 Mauritania only issues e-visas, requested online before you travel; visas on arrival are no longer available, and the fee is paid in cash when you land. Check the official portal before you book flights. We send a checklist once you book.
When is the best time for a group tour in Mauritania?
November to March, the coolest months in the Sahara, which is when we set our group dates. Days are warm, desert nights are cold, and the Banc d'Arguin is full of migratory birds.
